Small Submersible Pumps
Small submersible pumps are pumps used to move, lift and re-circulate water. It
is usually used in small ponds, man-made fountains and waterfalls. It is compact enough to fit in the tank. Within
its sealed container, you can find the pump and motor. The system makes use of mechanical seals to ensure that no
water would seep into the motor area and cause a short circuit.
Features Of Small Submersible Pumps
Because of its design, it cannot perform heavy tasks. Neither can it effectively multi-task. It
can move water horizontally without difficulty but when it comes to lifting water, it can only lift the water to a
height of about 2.5 to 3 feet. It cannot multi-task effectively; meaning it can move water and lift it at the same
time but not as fast and efficiently as when two small submersible pumps are being used - one to move the water
while the other to lift it.
It is for this reason that different small submersible pumps have been designed
exclusively to perform a specific function. Although performing different operations, small submersible pumps
retain a common feature of having to be completely submerged in water before being used. This is because the pump
functions by pushing the water to create movement. Hence to maximize the re-circulation of water it would be best
to put these pumps in the deepest portion of the pond or water tank.
Another common feature is the use of electricity as the power source for the small submersible
pumps. Electricity provides a consistent flow of power thus the pump works at a constant rate. But electricity can
pose a threat to the well being of animal life in the tank or pond. If an exposed wire comes into contact with the
water, the electricity will cause the electrocution of any fish or small animal in the water. To avoid this
occurrence, wires should be checked at regular intervals.
Another common feature is the use of oil as the displacement fluid within the pump. Thus if a
leak in the encasement occurs, this oil may contaminate the water in the tank or pond. Again, regular ocular
inspection must be made to prevent this from happening.
Advantages Of Small Submersible Pumps
Despite of its size, these small submersible pumps are durable. Most manufacturers give a warranty of three to even ten years. To
lengthen the life of these pumps, it is necessary to use the appropriate filter. Some of the pumps manufactured
today have built in filters that sieve big chunks of dirt or sludge. This ensures that the debris will not clog
the pump. When clogged, the functionality of the pump will be compromised and may even cause a burn out of the
pump and motor.
Aside from the compact design, these small submersible pumps are electricity savers, cost effective and easy to install.
These electric submersible pumps, although running continuously for almost
twenty four hours a day, are electricity savers as the electricity used is quite little.
Small submersible pumps are easy to install, hence you may also save on
the installation cost. These small pumps are easy to handle, maintain and install. This is why they are also
known as the no nonsense pumps.
