Vane Pumps

Vane pumps, which are also known as positive displacement pumps, work on the principle of displacement. A vane pump works by sucking a liquid into the pump and then forcing it out of the pump, so that the fluid is moved from one location to the next.

How these pumps actually work is through a series of vanes that are mounted onto the motor located inside of the pump. The motor turns the vanes so that liquid can be sucked into each vane and then dispersed at a rate that is determined by the operator of the pump.

Rotary Vane Pumps

Rotary vane pumps are the most common type of vane pump that you can find. Majority of these pumps are positive displacement pumps, but they can easily be switched to a variable displacement pump, some can even be adjusted so they work in reverse.

The difference between a positive and variable displacement pump is how much liquid is being forced out of the pump through the use of the rotor and vanes. A positive displacement pump forces out a predetermined amount of liquid at a steady rate, while a variable one pumps out liquid at a varying rate. Regardless of which style you are using the rate that the vane pump is forcing out liquid is set by the operator of the pump.

Uses Of Vane Pumps

Unlike other pumps, such as submersible pumps, vane pumps can be used for a variety of purposes, including in cars or around the home.

A great example of how a vane pump can be used in the home is with an espresso machine, whereby the vane pump is used to force the liquid out of the machine. One of the great things about using vane pumps is that they can be adjusted to handle pumping more than just liquid; they can be adjusted to handle air and gases. Being so versatile is the one thing that makes them so useful.

Benefits Of Using Vane Pumps

Vane pumps are very useful pumps because of the numerous advantages that they have over other pumps. Most pumps that are used to pump liquids from one point to another cannot run while they are dry because it burns up the motor. With vane pumps you can run the pump dry without harming it, but only for a very short period of time. Another advantage of these pumps is that they come highly recommended for solvents, which not all pumps can handle that type of pumping.

While vane pumps operate in a much quieter mode as compared to other pumps, but if the incoming pressure is not high enough the pump can get rather noisy. Not only that, the harder the pump has to work, the shorter its lifespan will be.

If you are considering buying vane pumps, not only will you want to understand what they are and how they work. You should also have good knowledge of the types of conditions that these pumps work best under.
